Winners vs Losers — does it apply to SquaresBOSS?

If you’re coming from PickemBOSS or BracketBOSS, you may be used to the Winners / Losers mode picker — every pool there can run as either a “pick who wins” or “pick who loses” pool.

SquaresBOSS doesn’t have this mode. Here’s why:

The format doesn’t have a clear “loser” side

A bracket pool has an obvious symmetry — picking the winning team and picking the losing team are equally interpretable actions. A squares pool doesn’t:

  • A square is identified by two digits (one from the home score, one from the away score). It’s not “the home team’s square” or “the away team’s square” — it’s both.
  • The Winners-side equivalent would be “the square whose digits match the last digits of the actual score wins.” That’s the only sensible scoring direction; the inverse (“the square whose digits DON’T match the score wins”) doesn’t have a natural interpretation.

For the same reason, Scratch Card pools also only have one scoring direction.

What you can vary instead

SquaresBOSS gives you other ways to differentiate pools:

That’s a lot of variation without needing a Winners/Losers axis.
